A Musical

The musical A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, written by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, was originally produced on Broadway by Harold S. Prince in 1962. The plot revolves around Pseudolus, a slave who will do almost anything to gain his freedom. When Pseudolus is left in charge of his owner's young son who has fallen madly in love with a beautiful courtesan, the fun begins. The young boy promises Pseudolus his freedom if he can arrange a marriage before his father returns. Pseudolus, desperate to be free, agrees. But not even the conniving slave can foresee the tangled web that he is about to weave. FORUM is gloriously free of serious moments; the show's action, dialogue, and songs are the essence of farce; the only goal is to keep the audience entertained from the first note of the opening number, Comedy Tonight, until the final curtain comes down. Shows are November 2, 3, 9, & 10, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. and November 4 & 11, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at the Decatur Civic Center Theater. Tickets are $15 and will be available to the public Monday, October 8, 2007.
