INFORMATION ABOUT OUR CLUB
The Sertoma Club of Decatur, IL was chartered in February 1954 with 55 members. It was registered as Club #10114 at a time when Sertoma was growing nation-wide. The club membership has varied from the founding 55 to more than 102, when it was a "dues only" club and meals were separate, and stands presently at 27 members with a meals/dues program. From the high membership days, the Decatur Breakfast Club was founded in 1972 and many of the very active members went with the Breakfast Club as charter members. There are many of the early members still active with the club and 1 charter member.
The community projects for children have been the most participated in over the years, especially the department of Crippled Children which later merged into The Easter Seal Program. During the '90's and into this century our outreach has expanded into a variety of community service programs for both young and old, poor and well to do. Whenever the need occurs and especially in the field of Speech and Hearing, our National Sponsorship Program, the yellow aprons of Sertoma can be seen with a helping hand extended.
Our meetings are held each Tuesday at noon at the Johnny Bartini's with current-event program speakers as part of the hour long luncheon.
ACTIVE MEMBERS ARE SERVICE MEMBERS
Our motto SERvice TO MAnkind - points out the dedication which this group of business, professional and agricultural people believe in with their volunteering and many hours of helping others. As an International organization, Sertoma's impact is not limited by boundries, gender, race or religion. The unifying attribute among members is a genuine commitment of service to mankind.
