The Youth and Family Division’s 2008/2009 grant funds of $500.00 were distributed to “This Side Up, in My Own Bed”, a safe sleep project managed by the Macon County Health Department. The project consists of a safe sleep packet with a safe sleep sack( blanket alternate), a onesie with the project logo imprinted on it and educational brochures on safe sleep-one for parents, grandparents and child care providers and one brochure on tummy time. The kits are distributed by both hospitals in Decatur for all babies born in Macon County. The first kits were distributed on November 9, 2009 and the plan is to continue this project for three years.
