The Macon County Transportation Partnership Group is seeking input
on rural transit in our county. The Public Education & Outreach
group will meet Mon, Nov 15, 3 P.M. in the Main Conference Room of
the Macon County Health Dept, 1221 E Condit. Our workgroup sees
many benefits to bringing affordable, accessible, dependable rural
transit to Macon County. We need the network of many voices to make
this happen. If you can attend the meeting or provide contacts in

The Decatur Family YMCA is currently taking registration for Winter
Basketball league for youth ages 4-14. Early bird deadline is
November 11th. Final deadline is December 11th. Play begins in

Coats for Kids!
The Coats for Kids drive is collecting coats to
get into the hands of families in need – warm winter coats for their
children. This is the 19th annual drive, cosponsored by
Dove, Inc., and WAND-TV and joining us this year, Papa John’s.
We want to make it as easy as possible for
people to make a donation of a coat. Coats may be dropped off at

Box City
National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
(NHHAW) is November 14-20, 2010. The Decatur Homeless Council
Continuum of Care in conjunction with Grace United Methodist Church
will host the 8th Annual Box City event for youth groups
and other concerned citizens to experience homelessness for a
24-hour period. Beginning at 4:00 p.m., Friday, November 19, the
east parking lot at Grace United Methodist Church, 901 North Main,
will be transformed into Box City.
In conjunction with Box City 2010, the
coalition for Veteran’s Concerns will hold the 2nd annual
Decatur Stand Down. Veteran representatives will be readily
available to help any veteran stopping by during Friday night’s
event. Those present include, but not limited to Danville VA, Order
of Purple Heart, local Decatur Legions, Operation Enduring Support,
and Decatur Veteran’s Out-patient services.
Northside Missionary and New Salem Baptist
churches will provide an evening meal for participants. Security
will be visibly present and on site. Grace UMC parish nurses will be
present through the Box City event.
Inclement weather does not deter Box City 2010.
Box City 2010 will again be collecting items
for distribution to homeless individuals. The items requested are:
brush/comb/pick
lotion
razor/shaving cream
powder
bar soap
toothbrush/paste/floss
deodorant
Q-tips
shampoo
Bump Stoppers
hair gel
blankets
tube socks
sleeping bags
sweatshirts/t-shirts/flannel shirts
hats/scarves/gloves
Non-perishable food items collected will be
distributed to AMELCA and Northeast Community Fund for those persons
needing supplemental food assistance.
Additionally, Millikin University will be
participating in NHHAW through a variety of informational and
participatory events in the quad. Mary Garrison, Assistant
Professor, Behavioral Science Department, has planned “reality”
homeless awareness events during the November 7-13, 2010 week.
Students will also be encouraged to collect non-perishable food
items and personal hygiene products for distribution though Oasis to
those needing.

Will you volunteer?
December 13 - 15 and on the 18, there will be
volunteer opportunities with sorting, shopping, and filling food
and gift baskets. (Approximately 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
Wednesday, December 22, we will need volunteers
to deliver the baskets that morning.

National Homeless Person's Memorial Day
Thursday, December 16, 4:30 p.m.
The Homeless Person Memorial Walk will take
place in downtown Decatur on December 16. Please gather at the
Oasis Day Center, 243 W Cerro Gordo, to make the walk in
remembrance of the homeless or formerly homeless persons who have
lost their lives in the past year. For additional information
