Each year the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Decatur, IL. sponsors the
Maury Doane Memorial Golf Outing and Fund Raiser to
help support worthy organizations in our community. This golf outing and
fund raiser has allowed our organization to generate over $61,000 to
donate to charity in the last six years. All of this money is put right
back into our community in the form of donations to local organizations.
Success is in the sponsorships. More than 100 supporters pay $25, $50,
$100, $250 and more to be associated with this event. Members of our club are
asked to contact businesses where they are
customers or people they know who might be willing to sponsor a $100
sign. Signs are professionally made for these contributors and
placed on the tees. The sponsor’s names are also printed in the golf program. We
have the following classifications in the
program: contributions of $250+, Hole-in-One Club; $101/249,
Double Eagle Club; $100, Eagle Club; $26/99, Birdie Club; $25 or
less, Par Club. The golf participants are put into foursomes, flighted, with winners in each flight. We do not use handicaps. We also
include Special Prizes, i.e. closest to the pin contests and closest to the line
on two holes.
The evening of the golf outing a dinner is held to recognize the winners and
to award door prizes. Participants are encouraged
to invite their spouse or a friend to the dinner. We keep our entry fees fairly reasonable with all of the entry money being
paid out for green fees, carts and prizes. None of the entry fee money goes for
other expenses or profit.
During our club meetings, where we average about
100+ members in attendance, we give recognition to
our sponsors and encourage our members to support
our sponsors which number over 100.
