An agency in downtown Decatur that provides food, clothing, furniture, appliances, assistance with heating bills and medical needs at no cost to those seeking assistance. A ministry of St. Johns Lutheran Church.

Homeward Bound

An agency within DOVE, Inc. that provides transitional housing and support for homeless families and individuals in Macon County.


Catholic Charities

A connectional Ministry that assists needy individuals with food, low cost clothing, medical needs and counseling in Decatur and nationwide.


Faith in Action

An agency within Catholic Charities that assists elderly people in remaining independent by offering assistance with transportation to and from appointments, the  grocery store and offering help in home repairs and providing good used furniture, appliances and household items.

Salvation Army (Decatur & Springfield)

An organization that provides food, clothing, shelter and spiritual help for needy individuals and families in Macon & Sangamon County.


God's Shelter of Love/ Hands of Jesus Ministries.

A ministry that provides shelter and clothing for homeless individuals in the inner city of Decatur. The home of Sidewalk Sunday School & Blessingdales Clothing Room located in the Old King Orchard area of Decatur.

Decatur Housing Authority (DHA)

A Government funded agency that locates and provides affordable housing for low income families in Macon County, programs include Wabash Crossing.

DCFS (Dept. of Children and Family Services)

A State funded agency that protects and provides safe foster care for young children and assistance to parents in difficult situations.

Heritage Behavioral Center

An agency in Macon County that provides counseling classes, housing, furnishings for homeless drug and alcohol patients and men and women with behavioral problems.

Youth Advocate (Macon & Piatt County)

An agency that provides shelter and helps to locate housing, furnishings and help for troubled youth in Illinois.

Ambassadors for Christ

A ministry in Decatur that provides food, clothing, shelter and spiritual help for needy families in Decatur.

Good Samaritan Inn

A “soup kitchen” in downtown Decatur that offers a free hot meal 7 days a week to anyone who walks through their doors.  

Nancy Rude

A program in downtown Decatur that is open during the day for homeless people to get in out of the weather and enjoy fellowship, games and each others company.

Home Sweet Home Ministries

A ministry supported by the First Christian Church in Clinton, IL that assists families in Dewitt County with food, clothing, furniture, appliances and housing.

Seniors Assistance Program of Champaign County

A program that helps senior citizens of Champaign County locate furniture, household items and assists them while moving from their residence to assisted living.

St. John’s Home Health

An outreach of St. John’s Hospital in Springfield proving home nursing care in Decatur & Macon County.

Midwest Mission Distribution Center (MMDC)

An agency of the United Methodist Church located in Chatham, IL that collects and distributes school desks, school bags, flood buckets, health kits, layettes both in the United States and around the world.

Love Packages/ Eagle Nest Ministries

An organization located in Butler, IL that collects and distributes used and outdated Sunday School materials, Christian literature, Bibles, tracts and tapes to English speaking Third World Countries.  In 2005 they shipped over 250 tons.


Dept. of Human Services
Gay Smoltz

A state funded agency that provides financial assistance for low income families in Illinois.

Habitat for Humanity (Macon, Champaign & Sangamon County)

A worldwide ministry that partners with low income families in the building and financing of adequate housing through the help of volunteers.

Camp Maranatha, RR Pana, IL

A non-denominational church camp that provides spiritual guidance for inner city children. The camp uses college students for counselors and role models. Open from May to September.

Hospital Sisters Missions Outreach...

Springfield, IL

continues the Sisters' missionary spirit through education and awareness
programs, cross cultural mission experiences, and a medical equipment/supply distribution and recycling program.


First Call For Help

First Call for Help is an information and referral services of the United Way. With a computerized database of Macon & Dewitt County programs and agencies, a simple call can link people to needed services. First Call for Help is funded by the United Way of Decatur, Human Service Agency Consortium (HSAC), the Macon County Mental Health Board, and the Macon County Health Department. We’ll eliminate the confusion and frustration of calling all over town- we want to be your next-to-last call. First Call for Help is a free and confidential service dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and promoting community connectedness.


We offer furniture, household items and appliances to victims of fire, natural disasters and other circumstances that leave them with nothing. 

We are able to provide hospital beds, wheelchairs, walkers, canes and other items at no cost with the help of Hospital Sisters in Springfield, IL. Brad Walton, 741-3222

We have no paid staff and all our assistance and goods are given without charge.
