Our Mission Statement
Barclay Public Library is a tax-supported library serving residents of the Warrensburg-Latham School District and Harristown Township. The library is located at 220 South Main Street in Warrensburg, IL. 62573. The phone number is 217-672-3621; the fax number is 217-672-8404. The library provides the following services:
  • The library will send and receive faxes for a small fee.
  • A laminator and copy machine are also available, for a fee.
  • Internet access is provided free to all who agree to the library's acceptable use policy.
  • Library cards are issued free of charge to all district residents. (A fee is charged for lost or damaged cards.)
  • Books, audio books, and CD's may be checked out for two weeks; videos and magazines are limited to one-week check out.
  • Adults are generally limited to 25 items at a time, children are limited to 5 items.
  • Children may have thier own card when they are able to sign  their name (usually age 5 or 6).
  • Library materials may be renewed if no request has been placed on the material.
  • Fines are charged for overdue items at the rate of .10 per item per day. One day of "grace" is given, and no fines are charged on Sundays or holidays.
  • The meeting room is available free of charge for use by district residents, and must be scheduled in advance.

A Brief History...
Barclay Library was founded in Warrensburg in 1942 by Mrs. Pyrle Barclay who began the library in her home, loaning her own books to her friends and neighbors. The library became tax supported in 1945 when the residents of Illini Township passed a referendum to establish a library. The first year's budget was $1,000. The library had several "homes" for the next 30 years until a referendum was passed in 1978 to construct a permanent facility. In 1988 the township library became a library district and expanded its boundaries to include Warrensburg-Latham School District. In 1995 voters approved another building bond referendum to expand the 1979 building which was rapidly becoming to small.

The library celebrated its 55th Anniversary with an Open House on Sunday June 4th, at which time plans for a Commemorative Walkway and patio area were unveiled. To find out how you can preserve your place in the library's history by buying a brick, call the library at 217-672-3621.
